By GlobalDataMars said the project in Spain will take the output of the site in Arévalo from 26,000 tons to 50,000 tons by 2024. A new production line will be installed in the middle of next year and get up to full output two years later.
The company is studying the possibility of further expansion at the facility, which is 75 miles north of Madrid.
Luis Tobías, director of Mars Iberia’s multi-sales unit, said the investment would see the Arévalo plant “consolidated as one of the group’s benchmark factories in Europe”.
The Arévalo facility exports wet pet food to more than 20 countries. The site, which employs around 150 staff, makes products sold under the Pedigree, Whiskas and Perfect Fit brands. Mars said the investment at the site would “create around 40 direct jobs”.
