Noodles produced by Nestle under the Maggi brand have reportedly failed tests carried out by food safety authorities in Lucknow.
According to local reports, five samples from over 500 gathered in the state were found to contain more lead than the permissible level allowed under Indian regulations. The state's food safety watchdog will now pass its findings on to the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India.

Nestle has been at the centre of a safety scandal in India when its Maggi noodles were allegedly found to contain excess levels of lead and the ingredient MSG by food safety bodies in various states. The FSSAI imposed a ban on the sale of Maggi noodles in June.
The company is currently challenging the ban in the Bombay High Court. The matter is currently sub justice and Nestle said it cannot comment on the legal proceedings.
Nestle has repeatedly insisted that its Maggi noodles are "safe" for consumption and do not contain added MSG.
