Litehouse, a salad dressings and herbs producer in the US, has acquired plant-based pasta business Veggiecraft Farms.

Los Angeles-based Veggiecraft Farms manufactures pasta made with cauliflower, sweet potato or courgette, and also ‘rice’ using cauliflower as the base ingredient.

The price Litehouse paid was not disclosed.

As well as salad dressings and herbs, Litehouse, which is located in the city of Sandpoint in the state of Idaho, also produces dips, beverages and cheese, including the blue, feta and gorgonzola varieties, all for the retail and foodservice channels.

The company’s brands feature its namesake line, and also Green Garden herbs, and in the sauces and condiments category, Sky Valley Foods (acquired in 2019) and Organicville.

Kelly Prior, who became CEO and president of employee-owned Litehouse last year, said: “The acquisition of Veggiecraft Farms is the latest development in our long-term strategy to focus on category expansion and offer consumers convenient, memorable home-cooking experiences.

“We are starting to see a significant increase in consumer demand for plant-based offerings and this acquisition will provide a foundation for us to develop a portfolio of products with the plant-based consumer in mind.”

Formed more than 50 years ago initially as a restaurant concept, Litehouse has five manufacturing facilities in Idaho, Michigan, Utah and Virginia.
