US confectioner Jelly Belly Candy Co. is planning to add organic products to its range on sale in North America.
The company has lined up the launch of organic fruit snacks and organic jelly beans, the sweet with which the business is most closely associated.
"Organic fruit snacks are on schedule to launch by the fall. We don’t have a date for the Jelly Belly jelly beans at this time, and varieties and flavours will be announced later this year," a spokesperson told just-food. "Organic food sales have steadily grown over the last ten years, and we are excited to meet this consumer demand."
Sales of organic confectionery in the US reached US$216.6m in 2014, up from $207.2m, according to data from Euromonitor. The analysts forecast sales will reach $324.7m in 2019.
Total confectionery sales in the US stood at $31.79bn last year, meaning organic products accounted for 0.7% of the market. Euromonitor's forecasts for 2019 would see the organic category generate 0.8% of confectionery sales in the US.
