Italian cured meat specialist Rigamonti, owned by Brazilian meat giant JBS, has acquired local peer Brianza Salumi for an undisclosed sum.
Rigamonti, founded in 1913 and based in Montagna in Valtellina in the Lombardy region is a specialist producer of the local cured meat bresaola.
It had revenues of EUR130m (US$144.5m) in 2018 when it manufactured 7,685 tons of product.
The company exports to 23 countries, mainly in Europe. It has been owned by JBS since 2011.
Founded in 1978 by the Vismara family, Brianza Salumi, based in Sirone, also in Lombardy, has a similar manufacturing footprint to Rigamonti, albeit on a smaller scale, but specialises in the production and distribution of organic and low salt cured ham. In 2005, it patented the GranForma, a low salt cooked ham.
The company closed 2018 with revenues of EUR13.9m.
Rigamonti said the deal will allow it to expand its range of products and extend its international reach.
