Japansese snack maker Calbee has continued with its international expansion plans through the purchase of US peer Warncock Food products.
The financial details of the deal, done through the Japanese company’s US subsidiary, Calbee America, have not been disclosed.
The deal, which sees Calbee acquire 80% of Warnock’s shares, follows the Tokyo-based firm’s acquisition of UK crisp maker Seabrook a year ago.
Founded in 1986, Warnock Food Products, based in Madera, California, makes organic, gluten-free, non GMO, kosher, whole grain, and peanut-free snacks. In the year ended December 2018, it recorded sales of US$41.7m.
Calbee said: “Calbee has positioned the expansion of its overseas business as one of its growth strategies and the North American market is one of the key regions.”
It added: “Through the acquisition of Warnock we aim to expand Calbee’s product portfolio in the US snack market, the world’s largest market, leveraging its product development capability and distribution.”
