Wal-Mart’s Japanese supermarket banner, Seiyu, has revealed plans to extend its online grocery operations.
The company said last week (25 January) that it will extend its online offer to 125 supermarkets by the end of this year, and to 350 stores by the end of 2013.
It also aims to increase the number of online supermarket customers ten-fold and their sales 20-fold on current levels over the next five years.
The retailer currently offers online groceries over an area covered by 47 stores based mainly in the Kanto region. It now plans to roll out its online grocery offer to Hokkaido, Tohoku, Nagano, Tokai, Kansai and Kyushu.
