Japanese dairy products company Yakult Honsha is reported to be strengthening its international presence with the construction of a second factory in Mexico.

The new plant, which is being built in Guadalajara at a cost equivalent to around ¥3.1bn (US$26.3m), is expected to begin production in August 2004, reported AFX Asia, citing the Nihon Keizai Shimbun.
The factory is expected to eventually reach production capacity of 1.7m units of Yakult yoghurt drinks per day. Around two million Yakult yoghurt drinks are sold each day in Mexico, the report said.
The company is also reported to be planning to begin production this year at a factory in Malaysia.
