Convenience store operator Lawson has reported a rise in net income to 6.155bn yen (US$55m) in the first quarter ended 31 May, compared with 4.982bn yen in the same period last year.
Total operating revenues were 66.603bn yen, compared with 62.042bn a year ago.
The company mainly attributed the rise in its operating profit to increases in commissions from franchised stores and operating revenue of its subsidiary Lawson ATM Networks,
“Sales by Lawson Group companies were adversely affected in April and May by lower-than-usual temperatures in northern Japan and some parts of eastern Japan, as a result of which sales on an existing store basis for the first quarter were down 0.8% from the same quarter of the previous year,” it said.
