Japanese brewer Kirin and functional dairy products group Yakult Honsha have signed an agreement to form a business alliance in Japan centring on health foods and functional foods.

The move is a further alliance between the two companies, which began a business collaboration in 2003 to sell each other’s products in their vending machines. The companies hope the alliance will enable them to be more responsive to changes in the longer-term business environment, and create additional value.

As part of the deal, Kirin and Yakult will endeavour to develop next-generation health foods and functional foods business. Moreover, in their existing beverage and food businesses, they will begin reciprocal use of manufacturing and distribution functions as well as strengthening the current vending machine collaboration.
