According to local reports, the Japanese government has suspended imports of poultry from the UK after an outbreak of H5N1 avian influenza was detected at a turkey farm in Suffolk.
“We suspended imports of British poultry on the day of the outbreak Saturday, and we don’t know yet when we can lift the suspension,” a farm ministry official in Tokyo reportedly said today (5 February).
Japan itself has been struggling to combat spread of the disease, with the nation’s fourth outbreak this year being confirmed on Saturday.
