Japanese snacks group Calbee saw both its sales and earnings climb in the third quarter.

In the three months ended 30 September, net profit reached JPY5.83bn (US$59.11bn), a 54.2% increase on the prior year. Earnings were boosted by sales of investment securities, the company said.

Operating profit was up 32.1% to JPY8.86, driven primarily by sales growth and the effects of cost reductions.

Revenues amounted to JPY95.67bn, an 11.1% increase on the comparable period of last year. Sales in the firm’s food division was up 10.9% to JPY94.12bn, driven by snack foods, cereal and Calbee’s overseas business.
