Japan’s biggest supermarket chain AEON has announced plans to boost its number of discount outlets.

Aeon runs about 30 discount outlets trading under the The Big brand name. The company said that it would increase The Big store numbers by sevenfold over the next three years, to 200 outlets.

The group also plans to convert its MaxValu and Jusco supermarkets to The Big banner.

The Big stores primarily stock own-brand items and offer produce at prices 10-30% cheaper than rival supermarkets.
