Japan’s Aeon has appointed its first foreign executive to help boost its overseas operations and beef up other areas in the failing supermarket’s infrastructure.
Jerry Black, the CEO of US consulting firm Kurt Salmon Associates, tapped previously by Aeon for advice, will be taken on as an executive on 21 March, the company revealed. After a shareholder meeting in May, he will become a director of the Japanese retailer.
Black, 49, will take up his new position as the retail giant increasingly shifts its focus to foreign markets such as China and Southeast Asia.
In addition to overseeing Aeon’s overseas businesses, Black is expected to head the company’s group strategies and information technology divisions.
