Jack Link’s, the US-based meat-snacks supplier, has launched meat-free Peperami products in the UK.
The company is rolling out two SKUs under a new brand called Vegerami.
Two flavours of chicken-style bites – Pep’d Up and Smokin’ – are initially available in Tesco. The products, made from pea, are sold in 40g bags and, Jack Link’s said, “contain less than 134 calories per portion”. They have a recommended retail price of GBP1 (US$1.39).
Jack Link’s is looking to target “nutritionally-aware young adults looking to reduce their meat consumption and incorporate better-for-you snacks into their diet”.
Laura Trivulzio, marketing director for the Peperami and Jack Link’s brands, said: “As the flexitarian trend gains momentum, there’s never been a better time to introduce a healthier, meat-free snack to cater to young adults and families. We believe our new Vegerami range will significantly contribute to category growth, as the meat-free and meat snacking categories grow side by side.
Privately-owned Jack Link’s acquired Peperami from Unilever in 2014.
