A consumer association is urging Italians to boycott one of their most renowned national dishes, pizza, tomorrow [Saturday] as a protest to rising prices.

ADUC wants to highlight the difference between the relatively low cost price of a pizza, around €0.49 (US$0.48) and its sales price of around €5.

The association has called on consumers to take a common stand and refrain from ordering pizzas in restaurants and takeaway outlets and also from purchasing them in the popular fashion of by the slice, as fastfood, from street traders.

ADUC claims the pizza has been the focus of unjustified price hikes following the introduction of the euro on 1 January and invites comsumers to choose spaghetti instead!
