The American sandwich chain Subway is renewing its activities in Israel, and within a month will open its main branch in central Tel Aviv – this time under its own management and under its full ownership, according to Maariv.

In the past, the license to operate the Subway chain in Israel was given to a major franchisee, which in turn granted to sub-contractors a “secondary franchise” status. The report notes that the international chain itself will grant the rights to entrepreneurs to operate its branches in Israel, which will all be under the direct management of Subway International.

Subway International operates 18,500 branches worldwide, most of them – around 14,000 – are in the USA. Owing to “differences of opinion” with a large American food company which was a candidate to receive the franchise in Israel, Subway International decided to act itself and resume its activities on the local market.
