Gold Frost, the Kosher dairy producer, is within a couple of weeks of winning a license to export to the United States. Just Food understands the company, which is listed in London but is a subsidiary of Israeli-based G. Willi-Food International, will receive clearance from the US Food & Drug Administration imminently.
Once the license is granted Gold Frost will be able to sign distribution deals with wholesalers and access the lucrative US supermarket industry.
The company designs, develops and distributes kosher versions of products such as Lurpack butter. It also makes kosher chilled and frozen foods.
The company floated in London earlier this year in order to raise money for the planned expansion into the US and UK markets.
A spokesman for the company said: “When the initial public offering was done we said the US and UK would be key markets for us but that access to the US would likely be granted first. We are very close to FDA approval and when that goes through we will seek a wholesaler to help us distribute to the larger supermarkets. We have already increased our sales force in the US in anticipation of this happening. We also want to do something in the UK this year and that could be through corporate activity, possible a takeover, or through a distribution deal and joint venture.”

By GlobalDataA broker in the City of London who has been watching the stock said: “Investors believe that once this US licence is granted the share price could double.” Gold Frost listed in March at 35p a share. It closed last week at 44.50p.
The company believes that its products will be successful in the US and UK markets with a wider consumer audience than just those selecting kosher food for religious reasons. Gold Frost points out that kosher foods are often healthier than non-kosher equivalents and this could be attractive to many people.
