Glanbia Nutritionals, a division of Irish food company Glanbia, has announced a partnership with US company Nurture Inc under which it will become European distributor for OatVantage, a product high in cholesterol reducing oat beta-glucan.

OatVantage is the only 54% oat beta-glucan on the market. The launch of OatVantage takes place next week at Vitafoods 2005 in Geneva. The new alliance builds on Glanbia Nutritionals’ growth strategy by extending its range of science-based nutritional solutions, the company said.


Providing up to 18 times more cholesterol-lowering beta-glucan (soluble fibre) than oats, OatVantage is the optimal heart health solution, it said. Oat beta-glucan is approved for a cholesterol-lowering health claim by the UK Joint Health Claims Initiative, the Swedish Nutrition Foundation and the US FDA. In published research, oat beta-glucan has been shown to control blood sugars in the body, making it a low GI ingredient. Its efficacy is supported by numerous clinical trials, Glanbia Nutritionals said.


OatVantage is a water soluble fibre. It is a free-flowing powder, with a clean sensory profile, so has no impact on the taste of the end product. Its superior versatility means that it can be successfully used in the more challenging food, beverage and dietary supplement applications.

Thanks to its superior concentration, we can offer 0.75g of oat beta-glucan in two capsules or in a 200ml serving of orange juice, which is the amount required for products to carry the approved health claim.”
