US agribusiness giant Archer Daniels Midland (ADM) has announced that local management at its facility in Ringaskiddy, Cork, Ireland has entered into negotiations with the local unions regarding the discontinuation of its operation.
The plant, which manufactures a range of citric and gluconic acid products mainly for use in the food and soft drinks industry, has been in operation since the early 1970s and was acquired by ADM in 1990.
Headquartered in Decatur, Illinois, ADM has over 25,000 employees, more than 250 processing plants and net sales for the fiscal year ended 30 June 2005 of US$35.9bn.
