Steve Sondakh, chairman of the Indonesian Retail Association (Aprindo), has revealed details of a new proposal to the Jakarta city government that could see the establishment of designated zones for the building of hypermarkets.

Indonesian retailers are suffering from sales down 20-40% this year, and the pressures are blamed on the presence of city-centre hypermarkets.
