US pizza chain Papa John’s has announced plans to move into India, initially with outlets in the north of the country.
“With its burgeoning middle class and one of the highest economic growth rates in the world, India today is one of the most promising markets in the world and we are glad to be entering the country,” said Papa John’s managing director Grant P. Miller. “We are confident that our superior quality products & services will be well received in India.”
Kamal Tandon, chairman of Om Enterprises, franchisee of Papa John’s in Northern India, said, “pizza has gained acceptance as a major fast food in India and we are glad to be offering a quality pizza customized to Indian tastes.”
The franchising of Papa John’s outlets will be done only after the successful establishment of the systems and suppliers, and building a strong foundation for the company in India, the company said. Neeraj R. Bhatnagar will be the chief executive officer of its operations in India.
