India’s dominant tobacco company, the India Tobacco Corporation (ITC), is continuing to diversify into the country’s food market, announcing a new move to seize 20% of caramilk confectionery sales in the southern state of Tamil Nadu.
The company’s food division has launched ‘Candyman Eclairs’, which will be sold in chocolate and caramel flavours.
At the product launch, the ITC’s Sunil S. Narayan claimed that the corporation’s strong image as an established tobacco brand gave it an edge in the Indian food market, through having already secured the trust of consumers. This promoted their “acceptance of our food products”, he said.
