Indian food maker Himalya International is to build a canned soup plant in Gujarat, the westernmost state in the country.
Himalya said the complex, at Vadnagar in Gujarat, was being built with technical assistance from US-based Wayne Farms.
The INR120m (US$2.7bn) plant will start production in October and Himalya chairman Manmohan Mallik said the company hoped to generate INR1.2bn in sales from the facility by 2014.
Canned soup from the plant will be launched in India and overseas in January next year under the Himalya Fresh and Uno Italiano brands, the company said.
