Indian dairy group Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) is to launch sugar-free chocolate to cater for the growing number of diabetics in the country.

Some 35m people are diagnosed with diabetes in India and the parent of Amul India wants to expand its sugar-free range after launching ice cream earlier this year.

“Many people love chocolates despite being diabetic, so we have decided to provide them with sugar-free chocolates, following the successful demand for our sugar-free ice cream” said B. M. Vyas, managing director of GCMMF.

The ice-cream is produced at GCMMF’s Mother Dairy plant at Gandhinagar, while the chocolates will be made at Amul’s chocolate factory near Anandnagar, in Ahmedabad.
