GVH, the Hungarian competition authority, has fined French supermarket group Auchan HUF50m (US$230,213) for misleading consumers through its advertising. The Competition Council of the GVH established that Auchan infringed provisions on the prohibition of unfair manipulation of consumer choice of the Hungarian Competition Act.
Auchan had made statements that various products were the cheapest available on the market, statements that it was unable to verify. Also, GVH said, in some of its shops it did not possess these products or did not have sufficient stock necessary for the period of the promotion.
