US group Hormel Foods has discontinued its Spam Snacks line just months after launching the product in its domestic market.
Hormel told just-food the decision to discontinue the packs of dried, bite-sized pieces of the canned meat followed a “post-launch review of consumer and sales metrics, which didn’t meet our initial expectations”.
A spokesperson said: “Spam Snacks will continue to be on shelves through the summer. Hormel Foods remains committed to product innovation and the snacking category, and will continue to look for ways to grow the portfolio to address the changing tastes of consumers.”
Hormel had rolled out a three-strong range of Spam Snacks six months ago.
Last month Hormel, the group behind brands including Spam and Muscle Milk, lifted its target for annual earnings after what it called a “strong” second quarter and its expectation of growth during the rest of the year.
The company forecasted full-year earnings per share to land in a range of US$1.56 to US$1.60, up from its previous forecast of US$1.50 to US$1.56.
