Hearthside Food Solutions, the US contract manufacturer, has started production at an idle PowerBar plant it acquired from Post Holdings last year.

The site is in Boise, the capital of the US state of Idaho. Hearthside acquired the factory around the time it snapped up Netherlands-based nutrition bar maker VSI in a separate deal.

Announcing the start of production in Boise today (28 September), Hearthside the plant “enables the company to better leverage VSI expertise in the North American market”.

Rich Scalise, Hearthside’s chairman and CEO, added the site provides “customers with increased options and greater supply chain value”. He said: “We will continue to invest and expand our world-class manufacturing network to meet the demands of premier food companies.”

Dwayne Hughes, Hearthside’s supply chain senior vice president, added: “”This facility enables continued growth; adding new customers in the rapidly growing nutritional, sport, and breakfast bar markets.”

Last month, Hearthside added to its US business through the acquisition of local bar, biscuit and cracker maker Oak State Products.
