Greece was officially criticised for poor hygiene conditions in its food markets in a report issued by an EU inspections team on Friday.

The inspectors expressed particular concern over the state of hygiene conditions at a large meat market in Rendis, on the outskirts of Athens.

Robert Coleman, head of the EU’s food and veterinary office, highlighted the fact that hygiene problems have actually increased over the four to five years that inspections have taken place in Greece.
