German airline company Lufthansa has announced that it will begin testing low-carbohydrate meal options beginning in July on its Los Angeles to Germany routes.
LSG Sky Chefs, Lufthansa’s airline catering company, is developing the service together with Lufthansa. It will be featured in the business class menu and will include an appetizer, entree and dessert. Lufthansa said it is the first airline to offer a complete low-carb meal.
The trial service will be available for two months, at which time Lufthansa will gauge passenger response and consider expansion to other markets.
“Our decision to test a low-carb menu option responds to customer demands for even more dining alternatives and customisation during flight,” said Mathias Friess, director of passenger sales for Lufthansa in North America.
