Franco Fresco, the Germany-based pizza manufacturer, is setting up its second factory.
The privately-owned firm, which sells products in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, said it needs the additional capacity to meet demand.
“The demand for our frozen pizzas continues to be enormous. We have established ourselves very well on the market in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Retail stores in other countries are already showing great interest in our premium frozen pizzas,” founder and CEO Christoph Schramm said.
Franco Fresco’s new facility is to be located in Artern in central Germany, more than 300 miles north of its base and existing plant in Geretsried, south of Munich.
A spokesperson for Franco Fresco told Just Food the company had acquired an existing site from bakery giant Aryzta and would add to the facility with new buildings. Pizza production is scheduled to start in the second quarter of next year.
Franco Fresco, set up in 2016, markets frozen pizza under the Gustavo-Gusto brand at grocery chains including Rewe, Billa and Migros. Its sales in 2020 were around EUR50m (US$59.5m), the spokesperson said, declining to disclose profits.
