France’s Glon Porc, via its abattoir unit Abera, has become the majority shareholder in Porcgros, a local pork carver and cold meats processor.

Based at the Paris-Rungis wholesale produce market, Porcgros has a weekly throughput of more than 5,000 carcasses and an annual turnover of EUR26m. Last year, Porcgros purchased counterpart, IP Meats, also based at Rungis.

Abera posted a 2009 turnover of EUR155m, of which 26% was accounted for by exports.

“With the acquisition of Porcgros, Glon Porc becomes a major supplier to wholesalers, semi-wholesalers, retailers and cold meat curers serving the supermarket sector in the Greater Paris region,” the group said.
