Action by French milk producers against the latest price-cut proposals from French dairy processors continued today (17 November) with demonstrators targeting a Danone dairy plant in the south-west of France.
While media reports claimed a blockade was in place this morning, Danone told just-food that activity at the Villecomtal-sur-Arros plant was continuing with “milk supplies going in and finished goods coming out”.
Farmers’ and milk producers’ unions have warned that action could take place elsewhere in the Midi-Pyrenées region on Monday and Tuesday with protests in other regions of France also on the cards as the week progresses.
Meanwhile, a spokesperson for trade federation the FNPL told just-food that negotiations at a national level between the dairy companies and dairy farmers are likely to resume this week.
Three previous rounds of talks ended in stalemate with the FNPL – representing the farmers – staunchly opposing plans to cut dairy prices.
