Carrefour has reached an agreement with packaging group Tetra Pak that will see the retail giant increase its use of Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified packaging in France.
Tetra Pak will supply Carrefour with more than 100m FSC-labelled carton packages during 2010.
The news was welcomed by environmental groups.
“This major initiative, led by two WWF partners, is a great example of how leading companies are supporting the green economy, working together to provide products with a better environmental profile, but without additional cost,” Serge Orru, general manager of WWF France, said.
