Judicial administrators have demanded that the Quimper commercial court pronounce a winding-up order for Doux’s last remaining abattoir for fresh products.

Located in Pleucadeuc, Brittany, it specialises in processing turkeys.

Hopes had been raised that a buyer would be found for the plant amid reports that the UK-based 2 Sisters Food Group had expressed an interest but a bid never materialised.

The court will render its judgement on 14 May.

The plant, which has been losing millions of euros annually, was given a reprieve in September 2012 when Doux’s fresh products division was liquidated. In the intervening months 270 jobs have been axed at the abattoir which currently employs 147 workers.

Meanwhile, Doux’s management will on 17 May present the outlines of its business continuation plan to the group’s works council, ahead of a court audience on 21 May.

Doux has been in administration since 1 June 2012.
