Scottish company Baxters has come to the Paris international food show SIAL with a new range of pouch soups. “We’ve got the 300g Soup Choices for all sorts of occasions, including office lunches where there is a microwave,” Baxters’ Richard Cox told just-food. The flavours available turn around a Mediterranean tomato recipe; carrot and coriander; sweet parsnip and aromatic chicken with Thai herbs.
“This range is being listed by UK retailers for just over GBP1 (US$2), making it easy to ring the changes for office lunches. We have launched another range in 420g pouches for more special occasions.”
These include wild mushrooms & smoked bacon, alongside carrot, chilli and mascarpone, as well as a red lentil recipe. They retail for more than GBP2 in the UK, prices vary between outlets.
While there used to be a heavy seasonality in soup, this has levelled out a lot in recent years as microwave use has spread. “Sales are now roughly 60:40 winter/summer,” explains Cox.
