Ben E. Keith Foods president Mike Sweet said the acquisition strengthens the company’s geographic reach in the US. “The acquisition of Kelley Foods of Alabama allows Ben E. Keith Foods to continue its expansion into the southeast, serving new and existing customers, and providing additional opportunity for our employees and partners.”

Kelley serves customers in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, and Mississippi. The company is owned and operated by the Kelley family. Eddie Kelley, who currently serves as president and CEO, and Jerry Kelley, VP of distribution, will act as advisors during the integration process. Scott Kelley, VP of manufacturing, will continue to manage the manufacturing division. All other current employees will be retained, Ben E. Keith said.

The distribution division will be renamed Ben E. Keith Foods – Southeast Division. Manufacturing operations will remain Kelley Foods, a division of Ben E. Keith Foods.

The deal is expected to close on 30 September.

Ben E. Keith is the eight largest foodservice distributor in the US. The group offers customers approximately 20,000 products, consisting of national brands as well as its own exclusive brands, across categories including dairy, fresh and frozen meats, frozen foods, produce, poultry and seafood.
