In nature, they feed on tiny artemia shrimps, but as their supply cannot be guaranteed, the project has created an artificial alternative. Co-inventor Einar Nygård, of Norway’s Department for Feed Development and Marine Processing, said the feed was “four times cheaper than expensive larval feed” and was “soft, making them more easily digested”, while meeting their nutritional needs”. In trials, farmed juvenile sole survival rates rose from almost zero to 90%, making sole farming viable, said a Eureka note.
