The European Commission has welcomed a report on the EU/US Biotechnology Consultative Forum which brought twenty independent experts from Europe and the United States to examine issues on biotechnology in food and agriculture in both regions, in a bid to encourage cooperation between Brussels and Washington on the issue. The forum was chaired by former Netherlands PM Ruud Lubbers. Its report examined the recent differences between the US and the EU over the trade in biotech products, possible improvements in regulatory systems and the use of biotechnology in sustainable agriculture in the developing countries.
