Thai poultry exports to the European Union are expected to rise following the damage to the EU’s poultry industry caused by the recent heat wave.

The Thai Broiler Processing Exporters Association has said the heat and drought had pushed prices up by 15-35%.

“The heat wave, which has affected the poultry industry in the EU, will be greatly positive to Thai chicken exports,” the association was quoted by Reuters as saying.

“More than one million chickens in northwest France have died from the heat wave,” it said, quoting reports by the poultry industry in the EU. It added that poultry farmers in Britain and Spain did not expect to be able to meet demand.

Thailand is Asia’s biggest chicken exporter and the EU is the second-biggest consumer of Thai chicken after Japan.
