The European Commission has set a timetable for completion of its investigation into the proposed acquisition of Delvita, the Czech business of Delhaize, by Rewe.

The deal, valued at EUR100m (US$133m), has come under the microscope because it is believed that potential competition issues could arise from Rewe’s already strong presence in the Czech market. Rewe currently operates Billa supermarkets and Penny Market discount stores in the Czech Republic. The group also control’s Delvita’s Slovakian stores, which it acquired in 2005.

The EC said that it will complete its review of the deal by 25 April.
