The political unrest in Egypt has forced a number of food multinationals to halt production or close stores and Kraft Foods told just-food today (4 February) it was among the companies to have temporarily suspend its operations in the African country.
Kraft, which has four plants and one business office in Egypt said its facilities were “secure”.
The US food group makes products including Cadbury Dairy Milk and Trident gum and markets brands like Tang powdered beverage and Tuc biscuits in Egypt.
Kraft said: “We have all been watching the unfolding events in Egypt, which have disrupted communications, transportation and general commerce. Like other businesses, we have suspended our operations there.
“While it is too early to assess the impact of the current situation on our business in Egypt, our major concern at the moment is the safety of our employees, and according to our most recent updates, to our most recent updates, they are safe. And all our facilities are secure. We will resume business when it is safe and feasible to do so.”
