Geia Food, a Denmark-based private-label and branded products supplier, has acquired BM Food in Norway for an undisclosed sum.

Geia said the deal expands its presence in the Norwegian market for fresh meats, groceries and refrigerated foods. The acquired company also produces ice cream, dairy, convenience, fish and poultry products.

It said the acquisition, which is subject to clearance from competition authorities in Norway, will boost Geia’s turnover in the country to around DKK300m (US$44.4m). The company, based in Aalborg, also operates in Sweden and Finland and owns brands such as Eventyr, Victor’s and Cucina.

Chief executive Claus Ravnsbo said: “Geia Food has enjoyed considerable success in Norway since 2015 and we have of course kept ourselves appraised of businesses that would complement our own. The acquisition of BM Food consolidates our position on the Norwegian market, bringing us new skills and top brands.”

BM Food was founded in 1985 and specialises in the import and sale of food products in Norway. It has recently increased its focus on the retail channel through the sale of brands such as Maldon salt, Beyond Meat, Petti tomato products and Rummo pasta. It also operates in the foodservice segment.

Its managing director and co-owner Øyvind Simonsen, who is a shareholder in Geia, will remain with the firm.

In May, Geia said it also acquired another Denmark-based firm, Danton Trading, an importer and producer of Greek food products such as tzatziki, hummus, olives and yogurt.
