While Danish authorities ponder whether to ban beef bones in gelatine, the food industry is taking matters into its own hands. Dairy group Arla Foods is dropping beef gelatine for consumers. However Novo Nordisk has problems – it cannot eliminate it from its hormone pills.
From today, Arla Foods has stopped all use of beef gelatine, which was previously used in ready-made milk shakes. This relates to both home market consumption and export. “We are only doing it because we feel that it is what consumers want, “said press officer Peter Kjeldstrup to Berlingske Tidende. Arla Foods will in future use pork gelatine in its milkshake and in various desert products.
