DeMet's Candy, the US group behind confectionery brands Flipz and Turtles, has started an expansion programme as its plant in Big Flats in New York state.
The first phase of the project will increase production capacity by "roughly 50%", DeMet's said, adding approximately 20,000 sq. f to the site. It will also see a new R&D lab and new processing lines to enable further innovation and broader range of products. Twenty new full-time jobs will be created. Around 125 full-time staff already work at the factory.
The new lines will be up and running by July next year. DeMet's said phase two will start in 2018 and add manufacturing lines and up to 50 more full-time jobs.
Trip Tripathy, DeMet's CEO, said: "The expansion is part of a long term strategy to unlock further growth for Turtles and Flipz and expand DeMet’s Candy Company’s operations. We aim to grow our business 20-25% over the next three years."
DeMet’s owns another production site in Mohnton, Pennsylvania, which employs approximately 80 full-time employees.
