Dean Foods, the US dairy group, has launched a lactose-free version of its DairyPure milk.
The lactose-free line is available at US grocery stores nationwide, Dean Foods said. The company has developed whole, 2% reduced fat, 1% low-fat and skim/fat-free milks in half gallons.
“An estimated 30-50 million Americans suffer from lactose intolerance-related symptoms. It was, therefore, incumbent on the brand not to exclude these consumers from access to the essential nutrients they would otherwise miss out on,” Dean Foods told just-food yesterday (25 May).
The company said IRI last month named DairyPure as one of ten “rising stars” in the US food and drink market in 2015. Dean Foods said the inclusion of DairyPure in the IRI list was an indication “brand sales are among the strongest in food and beverage”.
When Dean Foods launched DairyPure last spring, CEO Gregg Tanner said the brand filled “a void in the dairy industry”.
