Denmark-based meat co-operative Danish Crown is to acquire a majority stake in Swedish slaughterhouse Dalsjöfors Slakteri.
The deal is expected to be finalised "later this year" if approved by local competition authorities, Danish Crown said. The move will increase the co-op's sales by around DKK1bn (US$146m).
The transaction is to be made through Danish Crown's wholly-owned Swedish subsidiary KLS Ugglarps.
Both KLS Ugglarps and Dalsjöfors Slakteri process pigs and cattle for the Swedish retail trade.
Danish Crown said the deal would improve KLS& Ugglarps' coverage of southern and central Sweden.
KLS Ugglarps' operations are based in the southern regions of Skåne and Kalmar. Dalsjöfors Slakteri is situated 260km further north in Borås in Västra Götaland, north of the Swedish city of Gothenburg.
