True North Seafood, the processing division of Canada’s Cooke Inc., has acquired fellow business Mariner Seafood based in New Bedford, Massachusetts.
Founded in 2001, Mariner processes wild and farmed, fresh and frozen seafood under the brands Go Wild and MarSelect. It supplies scallops, haddock, cod, salmon and shrimp to retail customers in the US and Canada.

Financial terms of the purchase by True North were not disclosed in a statement announcing the deal.
Directly or indirectly, Cooke has initiated a number of M&A deals in recent years. In 2019, the business acquired Latin American shrimp processor Seajoy Seafood, along with another shrimp processor, Farallon Aquaculture de Nicaragua. And the previous year, Cooke snapped up The Fish Company, a Florida-based distributor.
Commenting on the deal for Mariner, Cooke’s CEO Glenn Cooke said: “It has long been a dream of our family seafood company to have a presence in the number one value fishing port in the nation, New Bedford. We now have over 4,000 Cooke employees in 22 US states and we will continue to invest and grow our New Bedford processing operations to supply our customers with healthy, top quality True North Seafood products.”
