Tesco intends to expand in China’s eastern provinces of Shandong and Fujian next year, the retailer has confirmed.

When contacted by just-food, the company also confirmed plans to open stores in the northeastern province of Liaoning, where it already has a strong presence.

The UK-based retailer declined to provide further details on its Chinese operations or the number of store openings planned.

Earlier this week, Tesco revealed that like-for-like sales in China were up 8% in the ten weeks to 1 November, compared to growth of 14% for the first half of its fiscal year.
