French retail giant Carrefour is to open discount outlets in China.
The group, the world’s second largest retailer after Wal-Mart of the US, will open Día stores in Shanghai and Beijing, reported Asiainfo Daily China News. The group hopes to advance its move into China in this way, most likely via a joint venture.
An official representing the company said that Día was in talks with Beijing Shoulian Group and Shanghai Lianhua Supermarket Co. concerning a joint venture to open stores in the two cities. The operation would be majority-controlled by the French group.
